Welcome! I created this blog so the web professional could share resources, information and more! I will start off with some basic questions and comments ...
Business Professioanls - I would really like to hear from some businesses who hire "web professionals". What are your requirements? Do you really need to have a person know 5 programming languages... I ask because I read through so many job postings that seem to have "unrealistic" demands for individuals in the web profession.
Educators - Are there any colleges offering BA or BS degrees in the web profession? Not a CS or CIT degree--- a web professional degree? How are educators teaching "Marketing" in colleges and not teaching E-marketing or how are educators teaching business and not teaching E-Business? For the future generations to be viable, students must understand how to manage and market a business online.
I will let someone else chime in...

I'm sure its just a matter of time before the colleges catch up to the real world. It has begun in lower level schooling, as far as integrating real world courses into the curriculum. Personally school has been interesting, but only somewhat necessary. Colleges unlike technical schools really only skim the surface of the jobs you may want. Some of course, cover most of everything you need to know like architecture and others, but general degrees don't. Most people who get those degrees (liberal studies and what not) don't work in their graduating field. Employers just want to know if your capable of learning and retaining knowledge. To me education is a status symbol, a good one-that shows people that you are driven and motivated enough to be an asset to their business.
I think the Internet is for sure a resource. The Internet is a big part of everyones life these days. You can conduct so much of your everyday business just by a click of a mouse.

As someone who works for higher education I am seeing fewer and fewer classes that are able to get he amount of students needed to be enrolled so they can keep them them available to take. It seems to me that it's the students not taking into consideration how important e-marketing is to web developing. They want to do the fun stuff of building a site but are forgetting that if the site doesn't turn a profit what good does it do?
Working for an ISP who does hire programmers I can say that we ask for the following from our web programmers...
HTML, XHTML,PHP, ASP.NET (VB) would be the main ones. PERL would be a plus.

I dont know why anyone would start a business without studying the benefits of online resources. Everyone should take the ebusiness classI took last semester. I learned so much from that class that I sincerely believe I can successfully run my own business in the future!
