Hello everyone!
I want to encourage everyone to exchange ideas and information here. This is going to be a communication tool that steps beyond the "email" or "discussion board" ... it is a "live" project management resource. So if you are interested in Project Management and would like to learn how it works in a "virtual world", then provide your resources and comments here.
So what is Project Management? What types of industries incorporate Project Management?

Project management is when usually one indivdual directs the entire project. This person, or persons, directs everyone and everything about the entire project they are working on from beginning to end. I believe this is mainly used in the construction industry. At least that's the profession my brother-in-law is in and he's a project manager.
Project management can be multiple managers working together a team to get a temporary task underway until a new one comes a long. They are the ones in charge and manage time and cost which are the two major contributes to projects and their employees. This is done with any profession that has deadlines and temporary task such as journalist, construction workers, or even the United States military. My husband has supervisors who is always after them about getting certain task completed such as standardized test, flight hours, etc.
Everything involves Project Management. A plan for the day for example, includes thinking about the whole day and how to allocate enough time to include all the activities planned or needed and the cost associated with them.
Project management is a wide array of jobs it goes not just for web, construction, movies, animations, and everyother project in the world that is successful would not be sucessful without project management.
Project Management has different meanings to people depending on what bussiness indivuals are conducting or wanting to conduct.
Projects and oparations are 2 different things. Projects has a clear beginning and a clear end. Whereas operations are repeatative.
Project managers make all of the final decisions, but a project manager should also be involved in the construction of a project, (i.e. a project manager should be coding, designing graphics, or testing modules).
Project management is the discipline of organizing and managing resources or people for the most part. It the group or person that makes sure that project is completed within defined scope, quality, time and cost constraints.
The first challenge of project management is to make sure that a project is perfectly planned out. The second part is to carefully define a plan that uses the money, people, materials, energy, space, provisions, communication, etc. to meet the that pre-defined plan.

All industries practice project management. Project management... Group of people working together for a common creation, with at least, preferably one, member to hold the focus.
It doesn't matter how many project managers a project has. It doesn't say that only one is preferred. Just as long as a project gets done professional and correctly. Project managers keep everything rolling smoothly, but they aren't superior from the rest of the team. Remember there's no "I" in team.
I think that's the cause of most projects failing. You get a project manager who thinks he/she is better then the rest of the team because the simple title "project manager" so he/she pushes team members around, doesn't listen to them, and etc. Pretty soon the team members are going to quit or cause trouble, then bye bye project. People don't like to be treated like they are second hand trash. Believe me I know! Ok, off of my soap box. :)

Project management is used to achieve a goal from start to finish by a team of selected particpants. The project manager would over see the entire project and assign certain duties to capable individuals of which he would monitor. The objective would be the focus of everyone on the team with specific duties being addressed by seperate parties.
